Southern Water Trust Fund is one of about 7,500 grant making trusts in the UK. It is one of a handful of Trust Funds established by utility companies. Its objective is the relief of poverty - the people it can help are those who have a liability to pay water charges to Southern Water Limited (directly or indirectly) and who are unable to pay. Grants are given solely at the discretion of the Trustees depending on the person's circumstances. Mostly, grants are given to individuals or families to help clear Water Debt or to help with Water Charges so that they can start to regain control of their weekly outgoings. Other grants are available, in the form of 'Further Assistance'. They are made available where the Trustees can see that it will make a significant impact for a person. For instance:
