Genealogy and Family History
I have been researching our family history for several years now: RICHARDS, ROLPH, BIRKETT, LEIGHTON, BYE, GAMPTON are a few of the names of interest.
In particular I am doing a one name study of GAMPTON, and its variant spellings: GEMPTON, GIMPTON, GOMPTON, GALMPTON, even GUMPTION etc. The family started in Galmpton, a fishing village in Devon UK. There are some records from the 13th century. The family have been sailing boats from the 16th century; in the early 19th century they started to spread: to Dover, Ramsgate, Hull,Australia, New Zealand and recently to the South Pacific Islands
