Spring Show was an enjoyable day out for all concerned. The competitors had rain and wind to contend with in the week before and in the morning of the show, despite being an extremely dry March. The problem was that it brought the Daffodils on too soon, but the perks were that we had more Tulips in the show than usual. The afternoon was fine and dry, so there were a good number of visitors to the show to see the floral displays, as well as cookery and handicraft entries, Judge Sydney Read congratulated the committee on a good show standard. The winners of the main prizes were Ashley Hiles for the under fives, brother Curtis Hiles won the junior cup and Emily Webb won the children's senior cup. Godfrey Fryer won the cups for the most points and the best exhibit in the Daffodil section, Norma Griffiths won the cup for the most points in the Tulip section, Marlene Summers won the cup for the most points in the cookery section and also the cup for the best exhibit in the Handicrafts section, Carole Jeffes won the most points in the Flower and Vegetable section, the Floral Arranging section and the most points in the whole show.
