Burton Bradstock Beakers

Bill Crumbleholme made some Beakers on Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock, during the Artyfacts Project. Inspired by the beaker shape and the eroded sandstone cliffs, he contructed these vessels, which were displayed at an exhibition at the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre in November 2006.

The joints between rings of clay have been made into flanges, reflecting the appearance of the eroded sandstone strata at the beach.

Sand from the beach was added to the clay to give it some texture.

These beakers were fired in an electric kiln.
