Corfe Castle Archaeological Week - 18th to 23rd July 2006

Bill is appeared again at Corfe Castle, a National Trust property in Purbeck, during their week celebrating history as part of National Archaeological Week.

To find out more about Corfe Castle follow this link.

Bill made and fired Beakers and Urns using a bonfire, many of the visitors joined in the experience.

Unfortunately a thunder storm struck in the middle of the bonfire firing and it was almost a total failure. The pots had not been sufficiently pre-heated and so they exploaded when the fire was eventually built up. A few small pots survived, but the rest will be ground up and recycled as grog in the next batch of clay.

A couple of new ideas were tested and seemed to work well. So the learning curve is climbed!

Apologies to all those members of the public whose pots did not survive.

Watch out for the 2007 appearance.
